Do not export navigations

Hi,
Is there a way NOT to export the navigation within reports?
I often use navigation to other reports, but when I export
those reports to excel, the links are still there and are more
a pain in the *ss then helping me managing the data...

any ideas?
thx,
Frank M.One option is to have a report parameter (Export) and hide the controls when this parameter is selected.|||That would be an option, thx.
Do you know if it's also possible to 'hide' the "Hyperlink Action" in a similar way?
I can't put a function there to check if a parameter is true or false...|||I think you would use an =IF(condition, true, false) statement to check for the parameter directly in the hyperlink box.)
=IIF(Parameters!DrilldownType.Value="-1",false,Parameters!DrilldownType.Value)
The Drill Down Type parameter would be the name of the report you are trying to access.|||I can't get a function in the hyperlink-action...
it's a link to an other report|||Where is the hyperlink action you are trying to access? The one I am looking at is under the textbox properties, advanced, navigation.

do i link or use different query?

first post, forum looks like it might help me keep from pulling my hair out :)

noob here to sql and crystal reports, but learning as I go. I hope I can get a bit of guidance here.

I am designing a report to show productivity of employees across our system. I have a query that I am using to extract data for each column and the query will always return 'employee' as the first column and then the data I want as the second column. (in the basic query results)

So, the first 2 columns on the report are both columns from the first query. Employee and hours worked. For the remainder of the columns, I am just insterting the 2nd column from the next queries. Sales, Trades, etc.

The problem I just ran into is that I want to display something which not every employee has a record for. For instance, I want to track how many memberships each employee sold. The way my query is written, when I add it to the report, it supressed the data for the employees that have not sold any memberships. Since it supressed the whole row, I cannot view the results from the other data. My thought is that it should keep the employee row, but list a '0' for that particular column.

Is this going to be a query re-write, or can crystal do what I need?

thanks in advance.Change your link from your employee query to your new query to a left outer join. That way all employee's will show up even if no memberships were sold.
GJ|||thanks. took me a minute to find out where to do that, but i found it.

how about getting those null values to display as a 0 (zero)

and if you can tell me where to find it this time :)

thanks again!|||With Crystal open go to file options and click the reporting tab. Check the convert database null values to default. If greyed out go to database tab and uncheck grouping on server, then you can check the null values check box.

GJ.|||awesome. you know, i try to dig around before i ask, because i just love learning new stuff. i actually got it to work a different way too by using a if else function with some searching around. im gonna try it your way too.

mind if i ask a couple more questions? hehe

i have basically created one report with 23 sub reports in the report footer.

1) is there a way to uniformly space out the subreports (vertically) if more employees show up so i dont have to edit the layout? maybe a percentage of distance away from the bottom of the report above?

2) I figured out how to alternate row color, but if my subreports have an uneven amount of rows, i get 2 rows with the same color

IF (RecordNumber MOD 2 = 0) THEN
crSilver
ELSE
DefaultAttribute

maybe the formula is wrong if i want to have subreports?

3) When using the summary feature, I cannot seem to get it accurate. I have tested a couple sum summarys and avg summaries. If I double check it against an exported excel file, the numbers don't match. Out of the 23 stores, we have several 'regions'. I was initially going to create region reports to be summarized, so that when I add them to the main report, they can see the sum or average of certain data for other regions.

well, that is pretty much all i got left to figure out on this report, so thanks so much for the help!

DNS problem with reports (server URL)

I'm developing a SSRS site using SQL Server 2000 and Visual Studio 2003.
The target device is a Nokia 770 Internet tablet over a wireless network
using VPN for authentication (corporate requirement).
The 770 currently has a problem resolving server names to a fully-qualified
URL. It's been identified as a DNS-oriented bug that may take time to be
fixed. In order to enable the 770 tablet to navigate to my site, instead of
using http://myserver/Reports I have to instruct users to enter
http://myserver.country.company.com/Reports. This in and of itself is not a
problem. The trouble starts when the user clicks a report or chart; the url
generated contains a reference to http://myserver/Reportserver.
Unfortunately the tablet can't resolve this.
What I am looking for is a way to override whatever setting is limiting the
Reportserver URL and replace it with a fully qualified URL.
Anyone have any ideas? I've looked into it some but haven't figured out
what I can do.
Thanks,
Randall Arnold
NokiaRandall,
If you're able, I think the simplest solution would be to create a little
one page aspx program in which you can display your reports. Then you can
pass the full domain name to the reports server as part of the program.

DMO reports product level as sp3 instead of sp3a

Hi,
1. I am using the "ProductLevel" property of the "SQLServer2" SQL DMO object
to determine the product level of my SQL server 2000 installation. However
even when I have installed "SQL Server 2000 sp3a" on my machine, this
property still reports the server product level as sp3 (instead of sp3a). Is
there a workaround for this using which I can get the exact product level?
2. I am using the "xp_msver" sproc to get the SQL server version. The SQL
server 2000 installation with sp3 installed has version no= 8.0.760. This
version is reported by xp_msver. However when "sp3a" is installed on this,
the version is still reported as "8.0.760" when it should be "8.0.761". Is
this a bug in the execution of xp_msver?
Plz reply ASAP.

Hi Onkar,
As far as I know, SP3a and SP3 are the same WRT the server part; the
only differences are in the client tools. That's why the server will
never report SP3a, and that's why both SP3 and SP3a correspond to
version 8.00.760.

DLL use In Crystal Reports

Hi K.Babu!

This is Ramesh and i have a qury for u,i have developed a DLL in VB and registered it for usein asp and vb and i aslo want to make use of this DLL in Crystal Reports without VB/ASp as Interface for Reports

Please tell me how to call the functions written in DLL in Crystal Reports directly

i have put my DLL in the directory where other Crystal Reports DLL are and registered but dont know how to call this dll in reports

Waiting for ur reply soonHi,
You need to have your DLL name start with CRUFLxxxx where xxxx is the rest of the DLL name i.e. CRUFLmyStuff.DLL, then copy into Crystal dir and then register from DOS prompt with: -
regsvr32 c:\winnt\crystal\CRUFLmyStuff.DLL)
after this restart CR and you should find your DLL function's from
formula workshop / functions / additional functions / Visual Basic UFL's and there should be your DLL functions.

If this don't work check out Crystals white paper SCR_User_Defined_Functions.pdf

good luck!|||Hello mramesh73,

Just curious to know whether phil's resolution helped. I have plans of creating dll for the same purpose down the road.

Thanks

Dividing reports into pages

I am displaying tabular reports and the report is set to dataset. I want to display only 10 records per page. How do I do this.

Thanks,

Sai Abhiram Bandhakavi

Have you looked in to custom code. Off the top of my head I don't know of another way to determine a page break other than groupings. So you could set a calculated field value based on some function through custom code to increment a number on everything 10th record.

The custom code would be a simple add one to a public variable when run... So in the calculated field you could use the IIF(RowNumber(Nothing) mod 10 = 0, <true>, <false>) to fire on every 10th record... or something similar.

Check this out. I'll run some tests as time permits. If nothing else I hope I provided some ideas.

Distruibuted Reports showing old machine name in the url.

I have a machine with Sql Server 2005 running the Reporting Services. The
server runs both the front-end and back-end.
I change the machine name after installation of Sql Server 2005 and the
Reporting Services.
I subscribed to a report, but the report is delivered to me with the old
machine name in the url.
E.g.
http://ewisql4/reportserver?%2fUNAUTHORIZED+JOB+CREATION+MONITORING%2fUNAUTHORIZED+JOB+CREATION+ORS&rs%3aParameterLanguage=en-US
But it should be:
http://ewisql3/reportserver?%2fUNAUTHORIZED+JOB+CREATION+MONITORING%2fUNAUTHORIZED+JOB+CREATION+ORS&rs%3aParameterLanguage=en-US
What can do to resolve this? Thanks in advanceHi,
Try to change the SSRS box name in the %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\ folder,
rsreportserver.config file.
Change the value of the <UrlRoot>http://ewisql4/reportserver</UrlRoot> to
<UrlRoot>http://ewisql3/reportserver</UrlRoot> or whatever the new server
name.
Restart the SSRS service, then try to render the report again.
I hope it will help for you.
Regards,
Janos

Distribution Problem

I have a crystal reports porject that runs great on my computer, but when I put it on another computer, it has an unhandled exception. It won't run on any computer that doesn't have visual studio installed. What do I do to fix this? You have to search for a list of the dlls that need to be installed. CR 8.5 came with a file called runtime.hlp. If you can't find that file, try Crystal's website:

Distributing/importing semantic models

Hi,
i'm using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to create ad-hoc reports.
Using the BI Dev Studio i'm defining a DSV and adding queries to it
before refining in the semantic model. i need to be able to distribute
these to our customers, who use an SS DB with known schema.
In a simulated customer environment i've successfully imported the DSV
file (using SMSS) to RS. When i subsequently try to import the SMDL
file i get an error complaining that the DataSourceView element is
missing from the SemanticModel. Quite correct. But how do i specify
the DSV element or otherwise make the association?
It is quite acceptable to me to make a simple text edit to the SMDL
file.
TIA for any help.OK, slight correction - i haven't successfully imported the DSV.
Import appeared to succeed but there's actually no data visible for it
in SMSS.|||Since there are no replies i'm either very stupid or nobody knows. If
it's the latter then for the benefit of all here's how i did it in the
end.
DataSourceView is a valid element of the SemanticModel element. So
manually edit your SMDL file and paste the entire content of your DSV
file (which is a single DataSourceView element) just above the
SemanticModel closure tag ("</SemanticModel>").
The Management Studio will now happily import the modified SMDL file.
The customer just needs to manually change the Data Source to their own
database using Management Studio (or Report Manager).
Cheers all.

distributing reports to multiple report servers

Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to package and deploy reports to multiple
report servers. We have 200+ clients, and are trying to switch over to
report server, but I can't find any documentation about deploying reports
outside of an organization.
To clarify a little, new releases come out quarterly, and are installed with
an msi installer, and we would like to be able to distribute reports with
our current process.
any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
CraigCraig,
There is a sample script that shows how to automate the publishing of
the reports. Is this the kind of thing you're looking for?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/RSAMPLES/htm/rss_sampleapps_v1_1apd.asp
Your msi installer could land the report rdl and collect the variables
necessary for running a script similar to this.
Andy Potter|||That should do just fine =)
Thanks,
Craig

Distributing Reports automatically

Can reports be set up to run and print automatically to specific printers on a nightly basis. What I'm trying to accomplish is, I have 6 users who need to see specific transaction reports for thier department each day. Of course I don't want them to see the other departments reports.. What options do I have....

Thank You!!

Jim - try this link from the forum. I plan to try it this week and it may accomplish what you need.
